Smenkhkare
1337 - 1336 BC
18th Dynasty

menkhkare appears in Year 15 of Akhenaten's reign. He may possibly have been the son of Amenhotep III, thus Akhenaten's brother, or the son of Akhenaten himself.

Whatever his ancestry Smenkhkare is married to Meritaten, eldest daughter of Akhenaten. At around the same time he is also portrayed on numerous reliefs in the company of Akhenaten as co-regent of Egypt. The time of Smenkhkare's reign is thought to have been about three years and it is thought that he died or was murdered soon after the death of Akhenaten in Year 17.
