1st Dynasty

enes is traditionally regarded as the founder of the 1st Dynasty of historical kings of Egypt. He appears at the head of the lists produced by both Herodotus and Manetho. He was probably ruler of Upper Egypt and conquered the separate kingdom of Lower Egypt.

Founding the city of Memphis he chose as its location an island in the Nile so that it would be easy to defend. He was also the founder of Crocodopolis. During his time, the Egyptian army performed raids against the Nubians in the south.
